The war isn't between Israel and Lebanon, it is between Israel and Hezbollah. Sadly, the Lebanese are sort of caught in the middle.
Lebanon has a significant percentage of Maronite Christian Arab citizens who have been victimized by militant Islamic Arabs.
I think the Israelis are right to defend themselves. I'm not sure if they aren't using a sledgehammer to kill a fly, however.
I hope there will be a cease fire in the very near future, and that there will be justice for all innocent citizens of both Lebanon and Israel, but I have no sympathy for Hezbollah, Hamas or any other terrorist organization.

All wars are bad. Israel might be a land of God's chosen people , but who are the true Israel? It is tragic to kill innocent people on either side , civilians who just want to live with their lives and family, but ideologies and governments end up killing them! So my stand is we dont need a war , never ever, Betn Israel or lebanon or between any countries.

Israel will do exactly as has been stated. Hezbollah needs to return the kidnapped soldiers and stop firing rockets at civilian populations. Then Israel will have no excuse, and will have to cease hostilities. Just because some guy "didn't think they'd react this way" doesn't excuse his or his organization's actions. As it now stands, the kidnapping of the Israeli soldiers is sufficient evidence of an "act of war" for Israel to retaliate against Hezbollah. I predict the Israelis will complete their mission and withdraw.

One has to analyse the past history that actually affected Lebanon before Beirut was divided to two sections and ruled by an electd President. The reasons for division and after effects. Palestine Liberation Organisation's roll with it strong holds, The rise and down fall of Duruz and effects over Lebanon's massive democritsation with the help of Syrians. If one minutely notice the outsiders like Israel, Syria and Iran has selected that land to square off quite a lot of misunderstanding, he will feel it is a power testing field. All of a sudden US entered with a roll of peace making ended in a dilemma after losing quite good number of well trained soldiers. Israel agreed to handover certain areas of back to Plaelstine except Jerusalaem after a prolonged negotiations. And Chairman Yassir Arafat didn't agree for it due to unsloved question of Jerusalaem
All of a sudden Arab suicide bombers crossed the strong Israeli borders and exploded several human bombs and killed hundreds of innocent civilians, even I remember a marriage party was completely shattered to pieces.
Israel entered certain areas inside Palestine in the name terror bursting and attachked and killed a lot of civilians and are unable to capture the king makers there and the most sorrowful point was Chairman yassir Arafat was arrested in his office and in his land. The Israeli Prime Minister gave him one way ticket to leave the land while he wanted to express the feelings of his people at the international forums.
If one gives deep thought, the people of Lebanon have undergone quiiet a lot of sufferings because others had selected its land as test field.
Why can't those people who hide and hit another country from Lebanon immediately leave to the countries from where they are & do it from there?
Having sound financial and military might Israel can easily burst all those "terror gangs" in the origin itself? Why they are killing the innocent children, women and elederly in the name of eradicating a poisonous weed?
When it comes to my stand, I stand by the side of those who really suffer due to the break out of war The suffering is same for all, for Jews, Muslims & Christians. There is no, more sufferings and less sufferings.
Our modern world is run by message of love and affection only. Quite a good number of laurettes are awarded with Nobel peace prize. Why can't they join hand in hand and do some services to the man kind, to stop further manslaughter in Lebanon?

Since its bloody establishment in the middle east backed by the west, israel had killed more than 1.000.000 mostly of children and women and destroyed thousands of buildings, farms and other civilian targets.
Who said that they are the chosen people, this is pathetic. Do you think that the today's israelis are the same people who lived thousands of years ago?? this is the biggest lie since the Genesis.
A lie similar to the Holocaust lie, that the jews invented and made the world pay for nothing?
Reading the Torah in Hebrew, jews consider all other people animals whether Arabs or Europeans.

Go Israel! You have lost thousands of innocent citizens to suicide bombings for years. Every President for many years have worked out peace deals you and Palestine sign documents. You did what they said Palestine,Hamas, Hezbollah, AND the UN have not. Do what you must for peace. I can't believe any Americans would support people who would raise their kids to be suicide bombers. People think you are over doing it. You warned and warned, and dropped millions of leaflet warning people to get out. No other attack ever does that. Your country has the power and means to have flattened all of Hamas and Hezbollah the first day. But you chose to try and get them the hard way,

In a since it is a waste of human lives, I mean even if they stop the Hezbollah there is always going to be another group that comes in...or even the left overs that fled to Syria....my opinion Religon has caused nothing but conflicts throughout the years especially with that area!!

totally against it..there is geneve treaty for prisoners stuf....there has been exchange of prisoners before without war...so this implies that this war was planned before and that its not hizbullah fault.i would have condemned hizbullah act against israel if they kidnapped the prisoners as act of violence but they did it becasue they have prisoners to exchange them...from the first moment "al sayed hassan nasralalh" said the prisoners are safe and he only wants to exchange them ....its clear that israel are only blood thirsts and olmert wants to raise his popularity byt his war and america wants to get revenge from iran through lebanon...why dont they fight iran if they have problem with them...is it bec they cant risk a war there ....???
