Respond to the eviction notice or be evicted by default. If you don't pay the rent, you will be evicted within about 2 weeks or so.

The laws/procedure are different in every area, but universally you either pay your rent or you are evicted for non-payment.

Your options are:

1. Pay your rent and stay

2. Don't pay and be evicted

Depending on the local laws, you may or may not be able to stall the procedure a bit in order to give you some time to come up with the money.

I don't know what you mean by "fair hearing" and "judgment". Is the landlord claiming you owe more than you actually do? If so, bring your cancelled checks or receipts to prove the rent was paid.

Since you didn't give your location, none of us have any way of providing a useful answer for you.

Pay your rent ASAP! The last thing that you want is an eviction on your credit report for years to come!!!

Good Luck!

See a lawyer.

For $17/mo in my state I can ask as many questions of a lawyer as I need, plus a lot more.
