well.... first of all... virtual memory is not RAM ... it is linked to something called PAGE file which is present on a system's ROM. BUt still page file n ROM work in collaboration. Now, when u run a high no. of programs or the programs which require a lot of RAM then u get the situation in which u r in.
to solve this u can either upgrade ur RAM or u can increase the amount of virtual memory allocated. this can be done by following procedure
IN Windows XP look in Control Panel: System, Advanced, Performance Settings, Advanced, Virtual Memory and change the allocation depending on the situation

Freeing memory and freeing diskspace are two different things. ALL memory-freeing programs are all snake oil and should be stayed away from. They actually make the problem worse. The only solution to this is to buy more RAMs (more memory).
Also use Silent Runners or StartupCPL (both freeware) to control all startup programs and processes. So many startup programs are not needed and can be started manually. If you allow them to open with Windows bootup, you will be depleting your resources (including your memory).

Go to control panel, click on system, click the advanced tab at the top, beside where it says performance click on settings, performance options page will show and click on the advanced tab for that and you will see down the bottom virtual memory and a change tab. click the change tab and set it to 1484 (at least that´s what mine says so it might work for you) if not try some other figure for initial size i.e 1488 and maximum size 2976 for instance. Of course all this means nothing if you're not using windows XP.

You have too many things running at once. Go to http://www.filehippo.com and look for CCleaner. It's a free utility for deleting cookies & registry clean up. It also has a program start up manager and add/remove program menu that is easy to read. Use this in addition to freeing up ram with Advanced System Optimizer (ASO free trial), but you'll have to search for that one. These two in combination are cheaper than adding more memory. And who knows, maybe you have the max memory already. I hope these help. I answer questions not to be obviously sarcastic, but to assist.

Installing more memory on ur computer is easier than trying to free up memory. Obviously your computer is saying that your computer is low on virtual memory because you need more physical memory in ur computer.

I would assume that you have downloaded bunch of pictures or movies. Try deleting some of them or put them on a cd file. Second option is that you can put more memory to your computer which can be a bit expensive depending on the size of the memory you are planning to install.

That means you have so many programs running that it's brain can't remember anymore. You have to shut down some programs that you are running all the time, or get rid of some programs. You can see what you have running by doing the Ctrl/Alt/Del thing, and eliminate each one at a time, but you'd have the same problem next time you start your computer unless you go into each program and uncheck the option for it to start up when you start up your computer.
