Just want to hear anyone's story of life, from being butt poor to filthy Rich without lifting a finger. And if so is life really that much better. Or could you have done just the same without. And before your life turned around was money always on your mind. Need to know, so I can start thinking of something else.

I had a really long post all written out about a woman I know, and I realized I could summarize it pretty easily.

I knew her because she was a server at a cafe I used to frequent. She befriended and kind of adopted an old widower who ate dinner at her cafe every night. She and her husband and kids made him a part of their family, having him over for holidays and stuff, despite the fact that they often couldn't even have a fancy dinner because there wasn't enough money to buy a turkey or a ham. She thought he was poor. He was not. When he died, he left $1M trust funds for each of her kids, and the money she got came to just under $20M after taxes. His kids fought for the money in court and lost because they had pretty much abandoned him. I have talked to her several times since then, and the biggest difference is that they don't have to worry anymore where the grocery money is coming from, or if they will be able to buy new clothing for their kids when they grow out of the ones they have. Her husband has been able to go to college, and they live off of what he makes. Life is only better in the sense that money is not a worry, but they already had a happy home filled with love, and that hasn't changed. Money was always a problem before, but she tried not to worry about it, because her belief is that too much stress causes you to be unhappy and makes your life miserable. She just figured they were poor and that was their lot in life. She still has the same wedding band, drives a nice, but not outrageously expensive car, does not overspend, and lives in a modest home they paid cash for. She still works part time, because she is used to working, and gets bored if she stays home. They invested all the money; some of it is earmarked for them, for retirement, and they are spending the rest of it funding projects to help people in need. She is the very same, nice, loving person she always was. And she says that while the security of having some money in the bank is nice, they would be fine if it all disappeared tomorrow, mainly because her husband now has a better job than he could ever get before. She feels that this money was a gift given to her in trust that she would use it wisely, so she is trying to find the very best ways she can to use it to help others.

Well this isn't about me, but my aunt (my mom's youngest sister, she has 5) and I guess the rest of my mom's side of the family were pretty poor growing up, and they moved more than 30 times (not even Army Brats). But my aunt moved to California and met a banker (my uncle) who became extremely successful and is now a millionaire. He is retired, but he makes so much money buying property and selling it for much more because the land prices go up. They live in Mexico, in a 5 million dollar house and are moving again a few neighborhoods away to an even more expensive house just right in front of a golf course (this is in Cabo). Her last house in New York, believe it or not, she sold to Billy Joel (who gave it to his gf as a gift) but then there was that story about how she tore it down and reconstructed it. It's pretty sad because the house was BEAUTIFUL and all my memories of my aunt and uncle are mainly there...but life goes on, lol!

Good luck in whatever you're trying to figure out...hope this was at least half-way interesting, lol!
