first check out the people around you (1), is there anyone you are attracted to and could talk to easily? then do something together in a group - if you feel not so sure about going out alone as a first "warm up exercise" - then during the group activities you see how the other does things, how she or he relates to the other, if she or he is funny got a sense of humour, easy going, artistic, or whatever, gd at singing whatever, find common interest and see if you could share some of these activities in a few hrs, a day, a wkend, a vacation, if all yes, then move on next step, possible life partner; watch the movie . Wedding crashers -even though its a comedy and slightly outrageous, but the fundamentals are correct - especially the match making for themselves of the two heros, you must feel at ease with your life partner - because there are many rough spots in life, you dont want to be accompanied by stress in these occasions. and once you found the one you want, get to it, full speed, you will get what you deserve; be courageous, go out and conquer !
(1) if currently in whats around you, you see no suitable person, then join a trip - something that requires seeing new things in a new environment : a language trip, a canoeing trip, a cultural visit whatever that interests you, work from there.

How about sharing your secrets when you do find one? There are many of us out there looking and don't even have a clue. Everybody tells you to try church, join interest groups, volunteer, etc. I still haven't found anyone.
