There is an anatomical factor which must be considered..the length of the small intestine...dissection revealed a differential of 13 feet in that length between a tall, very slender man and a short heavy woman. You can't get enough to eat. Would suggest that you eat at least 5 times a day, as that food doesn't have a lot of absorption time. Moderate exercise may help increase the muscle mass for added weight.

to gain weight... you need to start eating balanced meals with little or no sugary and fatty/oily foods. lots of wheat kinda things, and lots of bean and veggies and fruits. try eating at home more often.
then after you get that down... exercise. if weightlifting is too boring, run, or do bike machines. atleast 20 minutes every other day at a minimum.
then you will gain weight. good weight, and be healthier...

You didn't mention your age. Based purely on what you've written, it's obvious you're under 30. Wait a few years, see what tricks your body plays on you at that time. It's different for everyone, but when it happens...you'll know.
