Well, the drinking age is a VERY VERY politicized issue. I don't know all the history, but there was a lot of drunk driving issues and MADD and many other groups got support to raise the driving age. Although it probably deserves to go to 18, Congress will decrease Federal Highway dollars if a state makes it lower. Plus, will a politcian get reelected if people think he is endangering people by possibly causing more drunk driving? Plus, the US has had the whole history with Prohibition and stuff. We are slow to change here, that's all.

Were you expecting life to make sense? (You will be very disappointed!)
This was a big question during the Viet Nam war too.
A lot is said about drinking and driving by 18 year olds, but would legalizing it make it happen less? I don't think so. It happens a lot now.
I think that if you are capable of making all of life's tough choices at age 18 (marriage, sign contracts, etc.) then you should also be considered capable of purchasing and drinking liquor.

Because if 18 year olds were out at the bar they wouldn't go to war.

Been asking that for a while. I think either the age for the army (or atleast combat) goes up to 21 or drinking moves down to 18.
I like England's system. When you're 16 you can have one beer with a meal. Then when you're 18 you can drink anything. It kinda breaks you into drinking I think.

Same old question same old answer-because that is what our society and politicians have decided makes sense....so there, there's no really go answer for this, the 21 age to drink was forced on the states by the feds, pressured by the insurance lobby. Makes no sense, but you know what does? Not going to war, not joining the military at least until we have a president who values American lives more than Iraqi oil, err, Iraqi lives, yeah, that's it.

Because the government thinks that you can not make the decision on when to quit drinking until you are out of High School, and have more responsibility in your life. Have you ever paid any attention to the underage people who drink? There complete goal is to get drunk, Which is first of all not really bright and 2nd a very bad habit to get into.

Because the insurance companies found that too many young people were drinking and getting into wrecks and so on. This cut into profits, so the drinking age was raised to 21.

Good question.
I believe they may drink beer at 18 but not hard liquor.
Also I know people that have had careers in the service and never killed 1 person .
But point taken ,it does seem odd .

I think the chances for under 18 years old to be killed is higher than to kill.
Do they usually assign to the front line of battle filed?

Well i read if u drink before the age of 27,you are making a big mistake!
Because some part of your frontal brain hasn't developed enough to handle what u do when u get drunk...
But,well no one should be getting frunk, because everyone acts crazy when they do.
