If they are placed in a tank together will they kill each other right away or have the babies and then kill each other or the babies?

I should mention I have a female beta. I got it at Walmart! I have had her for 2 months. Her name is pearl and she's a sweetie. Comes when we call her name and wiggles until she's fed.

Actually, I don't think they always kill each other. If the males are ready to mate they make lots of tiny bubbles in their tank area and then they get really violent in the mating process, ripping off fins and such off the females (not always, but sometimes it comes to ripping or tearing of fins) and then that's kinda it. I think just the same gendered fish kill each other, but not the babies.

They will mate if they are mature. Then the female should be removed and the male nurtures the eggs and later the fry. THe male should be removed once the fry can eat micro worms. Micro worms must be grown from cultures and without them the fry will starve to death. Breeding betta should not be done by someone who is not dedicated to it. Normally betta should never be kept together.

You better put them in different tank and let them seeing each other. Later, if the male fall in love with the female, he will build bubble nest. Then, you can put the female to the male tank and they would be a happy family with many babies.

They won't kill each other...

but the male will keep pestering her to mate (as usual)... I would suggest to keep her separately, till you actually want them to mate... and when you do see that the female is well fed and plump with eggs.

you can keep the male in a large bottle till then...

once you see that the female has laid take her out and let the male take care of the eggs...

once the eggs have hatched take the male out as well...

note taking care of fish fry as small as beta fries is quite difficult...

best of luck

The only time that a male will kill a female is during spawning periods. There has been several occasions when the male is aggressive (and vice versa).

they will probably never kill each other.the males are aggressive but only towards other males of the same species.if they would happen to breed however, they might eat the fry(babies).
