In dream interpretations, the act of flying is rising above conflicts, or moving to a new destination, or getting over a fear.
Look back on that time. I bet there was a huge obstacle you overcame.
As for the knowing of what a tree looks like from above.... our sub-conscience is extremely in tune with our waking world. It puts all things in perspective.
In other words.....you weren't once a bird.

You wondered how you could have known about the trees… I had a nightmare about a train wreck while I was in the army that was so real, showing things I Never saw or knew or even Imagined Possible in VIVID detail! I never watched movies that would show such things, butbI believe what I saw was accurate. Several such dreams have been very close to real occurrences at the time. If they were real, I'd rather NOT have such dreams. Not if I can do nothing to help or stop tragedies.
As for the flying dream, as a teen, I often had a reoccurring dream that I could fly. But when I tried telling others in the dream, they wanted to see me do it. I would stand at the top of our hill while they waited at the bottom. Then I would ruuuunnnn down the hill FLAP, FLAP, FLAPPING my arms like mad… but nothing would happen.
For some reason, this angered them, so I would FLAP even more frantically until I was scarcely above them, hovering. At this point, they didn't care if I could fly anymore. They just wanted to kick my ***! I had to tuck my feet up to avoid being pulled down. Then I would wake.
About 9 years ago, I had the best dream I’ve ever had. I flew to the moon!! In the dream, I was walking on the moon and I knew that I had information that could help people! It was something to do with the moon, I think. It was profound! I knew I could write a book and become very prosperous!! It was so real. The feelings were so awesome that when I woke I thought I really knew something significantly insightful!!
…but then realized I wouldn't get rich writing a book about Dreaming I walked on the moon, ha, ha, ha. Even though it sounds anticlimactic, the feelings I had didn't go away with the realization. I still felt great. The funny thing is, the moon was rather small in my dream, or I was huge. I can still see it in my mind. It was soooo beautiful!

I've flown just a little bit in one short dream where there was bright sunshine, happy people, and a good feeling. It's called astral travel. This is a spiritual explanation, and I don't know if you're spiritual, I don't know if I am and I'm not religious, but I do believe in this somewhat, and other work that Sylvia Brown has done. A few times a week, in our sleep, our spirits cross over to the other side, the "Home" of the spirits. The spirits can also be in other parts of the world and your spirit was in one of these places when you were flying, that's why it felt so real, because in a sense, you were there. You can enhance the realness or how often you astrally travel by becoming more spiritually connected to yourself and your God(s), if you believe in any. Astral catalepsy is related to astral travel if you're interested in learning more. I recommend reading Sylvia Brown's books and/or watching her on Montel Williams's show on Wednesdays even if you don't believe it because it's such a interesting way of explaining unexplainable things.
I just looked over everyone's responses and wanted to say that these types of things happen more when you're young like a child because children are less inhibited in their beliefs and feelings, being more connected with the spiritual world, allowing these events because it hasn't been drummed into their heads enough yet that the physically tangible is all that's real and the "imagination" is not.

Yes I have had that dream. About the age of ten or so I was having really bad dreams. So I told myself that if I had another I would just fly away and leave the monsters behind. (suggestions like this can be remembered when you dream) From then on I would just take off and soar over the rooftops. It was great. I too, have often wondered how I "knew" what the tops of houses and trees looked like. Guess our brains "know" more things in the subconscious state than we do when we're awake.

I'm almost 40 and can remember having "flying" dreams since at least High School. Occasionally it was a weird way of flying (can't explain, didn't even make since at the times I dreamed it), but the most recurring one, I can just take off by kind of running a little and can soar, usually not too far, but maybe over nearby houses or a field, sometimes over a forest. I never did stop in the air though.

MOst children have had similar dreams. I certainly did; I bet I could give you a visual breakdown on where you were flying and yes, how the treetops looked. It was very common for me as well as many others; as much as I wanted it to be special and significant; I found out I was just like everyone else.me

No but I remember a dream I had when I was a kid when I was in a flying tree. I fell out and woke up just before hitting the ground.

All the time, especially when I was a young kid.
I would dream that I was flying low over the heads of people I knew.
I would also just hover over them.
I think it is one the most pleasant dreams anyone could have.
I also think it is a fairly common dream.

You fly and ought to hence administration the outcome. you're on excellent of problems with your destiny. you may do something to make it spectacular. you also choose human beings to observe your achievements, or you want extra friends. by the way, in case you ask for a dream interpretation from someone who believes in Freud's theories, each and every of the desires could have something to do with sex!

yeah, I frequently had that dream; I'd fly over the school, or past the school...sometimes it seemed like it really happened that I'd float just an inch or so off the ground for several feet as I took each step - it seems so real, I'm still not sure...
