Okay, time to sit down with him and have a heart to heart with him and tell him how this behaviour is affecting you, and what your needs are, and ask him what his needs are.

You may want to consider counseling if you are not communicating well together, so you have help learning to communicate ... this will be very important while you are retired.

Also, helping him to get involved with an organization like the Lions or something like that, or other charity work or volunteer work will help him still feel needed and important, which is often an issue for retired men. Hobbies are also good, especially if he gets involved with clubs involved with his chosen hobbies.

Good Luck!

(Buy an RV and travel, travel, travel! It's wonderful for retired folks!!!)

Criticism! how sad! it's interesting that folks never get it that being critical is the kiss of death in most relationships. it's too bad that the love you both had and felt at the beginning has died but what did you know? i suppose you could 'mellow him out' by getting some relationship training and then introducing him to non-critical, loving, respectful and supportive behaviors. it's not hard to learn or do if someone wants to have the love and respect back - most don't or can't be bothered to learn - but you can learn for your self and then start modeling love and respect to him or anyone.

Do you have a rolling pin, let him have it over his head a couple of time and he will straighten his butt out.
