When I worked for Saturn many moons ago we had a problem with road noise, and a couple of people switch from the Firestone to the Michelin and the noise went away. If it is a wheel bearing the noise should go away when swerving. also there should be considerable play. check for clearance issues if you up-sized tires. If it is 4 wheel with over-sized tires you will just have to live with it we called it wah-wah

Some tires, due to different tread patterns and rubber compounds used in their construction, make more noise than others. Grooved concrete roads seem to exacerbate the problem. I have snow tires on my car during the winter months, and they absolutely howl over some roads.

Its probably just the type of tire you got and yes tread designs do have different sounds.
