There's been "decent bands" since long before Nirvana. So here's my quick list of bands that are better then Nirvana:
Ministry
Revolting Cocks
Alice in Chains
Pantera
Prong
Clutch
Les Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade
Pro-Pain
These are just a few off the top of my head, if you'd like more feel free to email me.

I can't believe you are putting SOAD, Green Day and The Darkness on the same level as Nirvana, it's ridiculous. I don't even want to answer the question after seeing that.

The Alkaline Trio, The Black Keys, Bush, Cursive, The Distillers, Godsmack, Hot Water Music, Megadeth, Metallica, The Offspring, Pennywise, Pulley, Slipknot, Shadows Fall, The White Stripes, Tom Waits... to name a few...
For a Nirvana fan... try Bush, maybe Cursive, Fugazi if you like your music a bit messy, post-grunge bands are dime a dozen really, but not my cup of tea, so this is all i can give that you may or may not like...

Grunge is dead; it died when someone killed Kurt Cobain. Yeah there is some good music out there. Listen to the bands that have been and are on the Ozzfest tour. I had the same problem after the death; for about ten years but I finally found a little radio station in the next state that brought me back to music life. 97.9 WCPR rocks.

that is purely a matter of opinion. personally I like Slipknot, Sublime was awesome, Breaking Benjamin is pretty good, and as far as Green Day and SOAD well.. they are both awful.
