In the older trilogy, the size of the light saber depended on how strong the Force was in the Jedi. Correct? (For example, Obi-Wan Kenobi's light saber is small in comparison to Darth Vader's.) If this is true...? How or why was Han Solo able to use Luke's light saber in The Empire Strikes Back to cut that animal open?

No, I am not thinking of Spaceballs. Darth Vader points out that Obi-Wan is not as strong (or the Force is not as strong in him, or whatever) when he sees his smaller light saber.

Isn't the size and the strength of the light pretty much the same since it's a "light saber?"

I know I'm not giving false information in my question because I just watched the trilogy recently.

Nothing you said was correct.
The size of a light saber depended on the design of the light saber. Luke was supposedly using Attakins training light saber, hence the green blade. Obi won used his masters light saber, hence the blue blade. They are relatively equal in size. Vader had a light saber with a red color added to the crystal, signature of a Sith Lord. None of this has anything to do with the strength of the user but rather the design of the saber itself. Solo could use the blade just as Grievous could use the blade. It is only a machine, a "weapon from a more eligent day". The trick is not can you draw the blade but how fast you can wield the blade. Those in tune with the force can seemingly anticipate where to put the blade before it needs to be there. Remember the baster shield exercise. And the animal that was sliced up was a tan tan, pronounced tawn tawn.

No. One's strength or power in the force has nothing to do with the lightsaber's use or capabilities, and anyone can use a lightsaber.
During the duel between Darth Vader and Obi-Wan in Episode IV A New Hope the difference between Vader and Kenobi's lightsabers is simply a matter of construction AND the actual power of the lightsabers.
Darth Vader's had been constructed after the "reconstruction" of his body and the blade length is reflective of that. It was also well maintained, Vader lived in the heart of technology and was able to ensure that his sabers power cells were always at a full charge. Obi-Wan Kenobi's saber, however, had fallen into disrepair over the years of isolation on Tatooine. That is why his lightsaber appears to flicker and fade during the duel with Vader.
Vader's comments about Obi-Wan's powers being weak... well, to put it simply, he was just talking sh**. If you look at all of the lightsaber duels in Episodes II-VI, the Sith Lords try to undermine their opponents by fighting psychologically as well as physically. Dooku and Kenobi in II, Dooku and Skywalker in III, etc.
The only time that the force directly affects the lightsaber is during it's construction.

remember the force flows through everyone and everything (Yoda), even luke used the light saber before he knew what the force was at obi wan's house. So Han can use a light saber in a short span of time like Luke did no problem.

ok lets put a few facts straighjt first
I have been playing, reading, watchign SW for years.
A jedi must build his own saber.
They consist of some crystals. The better the crystals the better the saber.
The reason Darth Vader's saber was better was because by that time he had built a personal saber. One that could control length of blade, intensity, and color. Ben's didnt.

This is a common mistake. Lightsabers do not rely on the force at all. They are powerd by special crystals. Blade length is adjustable on most lightsabers. This is true on vaders and obi-wans. There is a nob on the side that can be quickly turned with your thumb for fast adjustments during battle. That is why you see diferent blade lengths. The fact that they do not run off the force is why Han Solo could use one.

i cant believe im answering this, since im basically confessing that im a geek but it wasnt the size of the light saber, but the strength of the light the saber emmited. The stronger the light of the saber, the more "force" they were said to possess. however, no were was it ever said in any movie that only jedi could use a light saber. man my life is sad! LMAO

The lightsaber works similarly to a flashlight, with a blade in the place of a beam of light. How long it is depends only on the parts used to create the weapon.
Force ability does not make the weapon, though the Expanded Universe does describe some weapons made so that only those with Force training could ignite them.

the size of a saber doesnt matter how much force flows through a person it all is how the jedi makes his saber and the crystal in it because look at yoda he was the most powerful jedi and he had a small saber

I don't think the saber length depended on their strength in the force. You're probably thinking of Spaceballs, Mel Brooks' parody of Star Wars.

No offense taken, but apparently I'm not a big enough geek to answer this question. I've never heard that particular theory, but it sounds like something Lucas would do. My theory is that Han Solo had enough of the force to open an animal, you wouldn't need that much "blade" for that.
