Actually its not so much that he is gay, as it is that he is a gay advocate. This is a time when gays are fighting for equality both in marriage and in military service. More and more people are coming out including politicians and clergy men. It is not necessarily a story about Lance being gay as it is about the sacrafices that many gay and lesbian men and woman suffer living a consealed life because the want to keep their jobs, friends, and family. Gays want to be respected by society. However, society is very homophobic. Lance kept his story a secret for the sakes of preserving his future, and that of fellow band members. So in a sense its not so much about him being gay as it isabout his not being afraid to be publically gay.

I was a little surprised. My daughter who had a huge crush on him was not surprised. No, it's not newsworthy. It is celeb gossip-news worthy like they show on Extra, which is where I saw the news. I did not see it on CNN or my nightly news. Did you see the story on a serious news show? I choose to watch the gossip shows for entertainment, knowing what I am getting into. If I had seen the story on CNN then I would have a problem. And if you feel that it's not news-worthy, why are you talking about it? Sorry, if I sound a little cranky.

I am not now, nor will I ever be surprised when anyone who was in a boy band at some point announces at a later point that they are gay. I'm sorry, but its just too predictable. And I completely agree, definately not news worthy.

Once that would have been kept secret because it would affect ones career. Today it is brought out to help bolster one. Just my take I am guessing ,but no longer news worthy.

You're right!! It's really not a big deal at all. People need to get over it already. It hasn't even been a whole day yet and it's already old news. Geez!!
