Postpartum depression is a depression most women get after childbirth when the hormones are still flooding the body, but have nothing to act on. Once the hormonal balance returns it goes away. Some women are affected more than others.
Did the depression cause her to kill her kids? I don't believe so. It may have been a contributing factor, but it would not make her believe that killing them was right. What she did was wrong and she knew it. She did it anyway, acting on feelings instead of brains. To me this is not mental defect, it is just EVIL. And worse...she got away with it.

No. Post pardom depression is a legitimate disease. However she murdered all of her children, she waited until her husband left and called 911 afterwards. She murdered her children and got off because a dumb assed prosecuter brought up a Law & Order episode that did not exist in her first trial.

It is a real condition of depression that many women experience after childbirth. Most women cope with it until it goes away. Some need medication to help them. Andrea Yates was found insane by a court of law.

Yes. Look at her history. She was a kind, devout mom and employee until she acquired PPD after the birth of one of the children. Her life when insane after that, with repeated hospilizations and suicide attempts.

She was encouraged to have more children by her husband and pastor, while warned not to by her doctors. If those children were "gifts from god as she was told, then why did they make her feel so bad inside?" was the mindset that sent her over the edge to do what she did.

PPD is much worse than the usual after baby blues.
