We have two fish tanks in our home. One with just baby chichilids and the other with goldfishes and an algae eater. The problem is with the tank with the goldfish. We feed the algae eater his pellets, but a few times, I've caught him temporarily closely following this one goldfish(it's a medium sized goldfish that's black and has bubbley eyes). Any ideas to why this happens? Can someone please put my mind and ease or at least help me out?

The goldfish is black just like the algae eater. It doesn''t suck on the fish, just goes behind it "once in a blue moon."

Your algae eater is trying to suck the slimy scales off of your fish. He doesn't have enough algae to eat most likely and may not like the pellets. Don't over clean the tank. Also, try giving the algae eater spirlinka or something like that. We have salt water tanks, but my friend lost a few fishes before she caught her algae eater sucking on one while swimming.

I'm not an expert, but here's what I think. Goldfish are known for being poopers. They eat and almost instantly poop. Maybe your algae eater is following closely because of this. I don't think algae eaters eat other fish so I wouldn't worry to much but, if you're concern take Mr. Bubbles out and put him in his own home. Good luck

Well, the algae eater is most likely a chinese algae eater, and is one of the worst fish in the hobby. The one you have is behaving like any CAE after a few months, it is trying to suck the slime coat off of the goldfish. Obviously this is bad, and will kill the fish. The one with your chichlids will eventually do the same
It also wont eat algae

The algae eater wont harm your gold fish. Not to worry. Dont feed it too much because it will very quick grown up and really look ugly. It can survive with just cleaning up the tank. Trust me!

I dont know why it follows the gold fish. I think it needs company ^_*. Or just get up for some air.

Is the algae eater an actual algae eater, or is it a pleco? If it's an algae eater, they're notorious for attacking other fish in the tank as they grow larger. If it's a pleco, that's normal. My two plecos will do the same thing.

Best of luck!

most algae eaters are actually considered to be semi aggressive. he could actually be attacking your gold fish. ive seen an algae eater sucking to the side of a live koi before. i would try getting rid of the algae eater and replacing them with mystery snails for algae control

If you are talking about Chinese Algae eaters, they are very easily bored and will pick on and irritate any fish that seems timid.
