The Vietnam war was pivotal in the history of the Cold War. And the first war that the United States "lost". It still remains the stronghold of communism in the world.
It has been a long suffering area - undergoing so much political change in WWII and under Ho Chi MInh. And coutries around it have suffered so much - Laos, Cambodia - wonderful strong people that have suffered so much.

Southeast Asia is blessed with a very good climate.
Its people were once very indigenous, hardworking and educated.
It was the birthplace of modern surgery, algebra, astronomy.

i think all histories in all country is important, if you;re in southeast asia you'll learn history from abroad, and the reverse, if you're in europe you'll learn history from others country.
from history at least you;ll get the point at least the diversity, uniqueness, culture, etc.
