Both, true love consists of need, lust and soul and they all sustain each other.

Love has not lost its meaning, and love is as important now as it ever has been. I'm hesitant to say there is less love than was previously extant, because I wasn't there before so any supposition I would make would be mere and abject.
Perhaps some people do not realize how much love is out there, what with an unseemly abount of brashness and misunderstanding that the love is actually there

I think that this answer has changed from 100's of years ago. People married and had arranged marriages (not saying this does not still happen) and in those cases they love them because they need them. But this can change after a while and then it flips to needing the other person because of love.
Now, with as outrageous as the divorce rate is, it seems that people who stay together need the other person because they love them.

Love is still the same, the context of the people that use it, speak it and claim it, is what's different. The bible is still the best source of explaining what true love is all about " A woman should be willing to live her life for her husband and family"...I know a lot of feminist are feeling the hairs on the back of their necks stand up, but hold on...there's another part to the prescription, " A man should be willing to GIVE his life, (meaning to be willing to die ) for his wife and family"...based on this criteria...I think its a pretty good deal....

I think that's going to vary based on the person. I was very independant and not really sad that I wasn't attached before I met my bf- I wasn't looking he just walked into my life. I don't think I fell in love because I needed him. Now that I've been in love with him for a while- I need him. So for me I need him because I love him, but some people fall in love because they need to have that other person.

I don't think needing someone and loving them are mutually exclusive. Yet, I also don't think there was ever a true meaning to love. We love people because our chemistry matches up. To some that may make love seem awfully shallow, but it gives me a greater appreciation for love.

What love means depends on what you mean by it. True love gives generously and receives appreciatively. False love is love that takes and never gives except with expectation of reward, and those who cannot give love generously cannot receive it appreciatively either. Those who genuinely love an ungiving and unappreciative lover have their love thoughtlessly thrown back in their faces, buried in their muck of selfishness as swine would bury pearls. Love is known by its fruits: warmth, kindness, generosity, a mutuality of giving and receiving. It is not exempt from anger and quarrels, which are part of any relationship.

Well, my friend, Love will NEVER EVER lose its true essence. Its only our perception about love that varies from person to person. To love someone and to know that someone up there loves you..... it is one of the most pleasent feelings that one can ever experience.......It is more satisfying than having access to food after many days of fasting.
So go on and share your love, but don`t expect anything in return.....bacause TRUE LOVE is all about..........GIVING!!!
