My brother is away at his Navy A school and left us the care of his two geckos. We separated them today due to one's obsessive eating habits, but I still don't know what to do. When I look at the skinny gecko all I want to do is cry. It's so skinny. What can I do besides take it to the vet? Any suggestions on feeding and special caring for it?

They will feed on crickets (make sure the insect is no longer than the geckos head and is about half the width of its head), and wax worms that are a wonderful source of fat especially for pregnant and gravid (females who have just laid and are weak) geckos. You should also pick up an item called gut load. You feed that to the crickets and the crickets pass the nutrients to the geckos. It is very rich in vitamins and minerals but the geckos will not eat it like it comes in the package. It needs to move because a geckos visual acuity is based on movement so by giving it to the crickets, the geckos get healthy in a pretty sly way. Another item you should pick up is a vitamin and calcium supplement so that the geckos can become healthy and strong. You really have to get the calcium supplement because geckos do not get much calcium from crickets since they have no skeletal system that could give them a good amount of calcium.

So what have you been feeding it since you've separated the two? My wife and I are babysitting a leopard gecko that seems to be blind, so we have to hold either meal worms or crickets in front of it with some tweezers so that he can eat something. Hope this is helpful.

Hope he/she gets better.

feed it some crickets! if it will not go after it then it is definately sick and needs immediate vet attention. a healthy gecko will eat.

try giving it some wax worms, they are high in fat so should help plump him up, silk works are also excellent if you can get a hold of some. make sure he is at the right temperature and has a uvb (separate from his heat light) if his species requires it

i watch animal shows A LOT!!!!!!!!!

so i suggest putting it on a special 4 times a day feeding program until it grows also you can keep doing this and wait for his tail to grow larger because they store fat in their tails

Let them free in the house. they won't hurt anything and then they'll eat any bugs you might have. Not saying that you have bugs.

they sell a repti-care kit at most pet stores. sounds like it's dehydrated. check out care sheets on kingsnake.com they may help.
