Hi again soulsista, I think it could be a front for fear, however the arrogant Ive known have been totally self centered and egotistical , I wonder if an over blown ego is a front for something?

Sometimes yes, I think you're right. Sometimes I think you can't speak thoughtfully or intelligently around some people without their fear showing up as judgemental or defensive attitude as well.
We are basically a fear-filled species in any event. Fear can show up in almost any behavior. Hell, Chimpanzees show their teeth out of fear and behaviorists conjecture that this is where human smiling probably came from.

Yes, big-time. Arrogance is a cover for insecurity. True self-confidence is quiet and calm, doesn't brag or swagger or insult people. Arrogance is insecurity is fear.

I think it CAN be but sometimes there are people who really are full of themselves and esteem themselves way above what they should. Only God can read the heart. The only think you can do is make a choice as to how you will respond to the arrogant person.

Sometimes it's used as a false pretense to mask fear.
But more often, the arrogant honestly believe the things that they tell you. It's inexplicable from your point of view, certainly, but that's really how they think.

Oh Yeah..!! it is an act to hopefully cover up their inadequacies,Most people come to a point in their lives where they are mature enough to be vulnerable to really be touched by anothers' plight (empathy), and a lot of the shyness will just be warmed away. I am one of those .

Neither. Some people actually believe they are superior to everyone else. What makes them arrogant is that they have no basis for their delusions.

More likely it is the disgust about being insulted by an uneducated, but nonetheless selfrightious, selfcentered being with no manners.
