ive come across so many people saying stupid **** because they dont understand ****

this rant is mainly about the goth subculture...i will specify what goth truly is for some of the twits on this site

Goths do NOT worship satan, satanism and goth do not overlap at all the only connection is possibly a few goths that are
Goths are NOT all angsty teenagers, most of the true goths are in their 20s or 30s and maybe a few teenagers
Goth is NOT the same thing as emo, goth is more of a personality in the darker sense of things, its just they way goths are, emo is more of a trend
Goth music is NOT traditionally metal, darkwave, industrial and EBM is more traditional for a goth, too many people get us mixed up with metalheads...im not saying i dont like metal, its just not traditional goth, some examples of goth bands are Bauhaus, Siouxsie & the Banshees, The Cruxshadows, Seraphim Shock, The Birthday Massacre...this list could go on all day

ill be adding more right away so yeah...

Goths do NOT all wear all black, many do, and black is a dominant color, but even white can look goth on some people
Goth in the shortest definition it is a subculture that evolved from a musical scene to encompass art, literature, fashion and a shared 'dark aesthetic'. For further information about it, please read the "What is Goth?" page on the GOTH.NET site. Also, please refer to the section on the Gothic subculture at religioustolerance.org and at the Gothics.org site.

before you report me for a nonquestion, im asking why people are too ignorent to learn what it really is before making assumptions

People are too ignorant to learn anything about this subculture for the same reason that they're unwilling to learn about any other subculture that makes them uncomfortable at face-value.

If it conflicts with their social norms, they're not going to want to delve deeper (Note: This is not *good,* just how many people confront things they fear or are apprehensive towards.) It's not just the Goth subculture--it's also the Satanists (who, as a matter of fact, don't worship Satan--but you probably knew that), the Wiccans, the vampires, the Freemasons, and pretty much anything that anyone doesn't know much about off the bat.

You're preaching to the choir. The worst is when people say how much they hate goths, but they're idea of what goth is is based on teen Hot Topic goths. Just try to inform people when you can, but let all the idiots and bigots out there be alone with their stupidity, since some people are just not going to change.

I feel your pain but you should try rewording you question. Ignorant means they don't know any better and most of them don't want to learn or know how to learn. Just ignore them and move on with your life. Isn't rejection from or rejection of the current popular culture part of belonging in a subversive group?
