Sorry, yemendreamda, didn't anyone tell you that Israel's the 51st state? Foreign policy is not likely to change. It is true that the Jews in America are one of the few groups that actually vote, and on issues concerning Israel, vote as a bloc. But even some of my Jewish friends are getting fed up with Israel's inhumane, immoral ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians (my words, not theirs).

The first guy answering your question - I didn't notice his name - is a fool and a bigot. Please disregard.

'Can't we all just get along?'

Did you know that Iran provides weapons and military to the
Hezbollah ? The USA provides money and military to a number of
countries around the world and is doing so right now as we speak.
We have many allies and Israel is one of them. We choose who
is our ally and who is not. The Hamas and Hezbollah did not make the cut! As far as Israel right now. Well the US and Israel have a
common goal and interest. Defending their countries against the
Fascist extremist Islam. We do not like terrorists! We are a free
society and have an interest in staying that way. Until 911 we have not been a perfect society but we have been a peaceful one.
We will do anything to protect our freedoms and encourage and
support anyone else who fights for same goals. We also have
a bond with Israel right now because in the Hamas and Hezbollah
charter they talk about Obliterating Israel off the face of this earth and they will come after us next. They hate Christians, they hate
us. They hate free societys. They want to rule the world and have
everyone worship allah and all who do not to be killed. The USA
doesn't care what other people think nor should they. Just like any
other country shouldn't care about what anyone else thinks.
Our elected officials do what they think is in the best interest of
the United States of America and for its people no matter what
any other country thinks and that is how it should be.
However if you notice we do alot of good for this world also.
We go into debt donating and loaning other countries money.
We have even offered 2 billion to Lebanon to rebuild. However,
that was before the Lebanon Prime Minister came out in support
of Hezbollah. Now I'm not quite sure if that will stand. I as a US
citizen pay taxes and we as a country already have a deficit to pay and our own bills. I'm not sure if I want to support a country that suppports the Hezbollah and Hamas when they want to
Obliterate us and Israel!

I'm an agnostic and have been asking the same thing?? I cant figure out why our government has been giving Israel so much support. I believe Israel has a right to defend Itself but hell!!! Let them do it with their own resources and the US stay out of it!! The US dept is to high to be financing other peoples wars. I would suspect that some of the secret societies like the Masons and the SKULLS have very close ties to Israel. There are many Jews in high positions in the finical sector and have much influence. If you watch closely there are many Americans that oppose support for Israel. You wont find many stories about it in the mainstream media. Go figure. The vast majority of Americans are fed up but have very little voice in governmental affairs.

I apologize for all the stupid bombs we have dropped on Vietnam and now Iraq. The motives of supporting Israel were I think typical of the American Government, it was in the US's favor to have an ally in the Middle East, It also pleased an interesting and important interests of Jewish Americans, as you would suspect.
However, over the years, Israel has played a double track with the United States, and our Government has made deals with the devil to appease Israel. Nuclear weapons were either given to Israel under secret orders or know-how and supplies were provided.
Israel has over the years served as our long range base of operations in the Middle East and our eyes and ears. So we have a great deal at stake with our relationship with Israel, but we also have had our problems, like our good Friend spying on us and stealing secrets.
But, Israel is our ally and is more like us than other people or Nation in the Middle East. But little problems like being more of a theocracy than a Democracy have made us skeptical about Israel.
And then there is Bush. He turned or relationship between Israel and the United States on its head and now has Israel wagging us as a tail. It is a remarkable development that no one knows what is going to happen in the future. But Israel right now has a green light, I think, to do whatever it thinks is right in the Middle East.
I just hope they play it cool.

If we wanted Israel to just kill civilians, why would we give them smart bombs to kill people. Wouldn't we just give them the "dumb" bombs that Hezbollah is using? Sure would be a lot cheaper. The only problems that we have in the world revolve around countries who are run by dictators. Tell me one country that we are in conflict with right now that the governments are freely elected. Tell me any in the past after WW2 Iran? Syria? N Korea? You can't use Lebanon because they were too weak to control Hezbollah, thus it made them a terrorist state.

In spite of what the "world" thinks, America is not a nation of idiots---In the Holy Bible God says, "I will bless those who bless you (Israel) and curse those who curse you." Genesis 12:3 Most Americans believe that what God says in His Word are true (me among them) and we stand on that.
