The term originally referred to a style of music. The bands would play heart-felt punkish songs and would sometimes be seen to tear up while delivering them, so they were distinguished by this emotionality.
It wasn't too long before the term started to be applied to a lot of other things. The listeners of 'emo' music, the kinds of clothes such people supposedly wore, and the whole scene altogether. Which is part of the reason you see it in a lot of places.
Now it's used largely in a derogatory sense to describe someone who is pointlessly emotionally overwrought. There being lots of overwrought people and lots of people who like to fling names around, this is another major reason why you see the term everywhere!

You all have first-class features, however all of us can definitly agree that Sasuke is to tired of power to overcome Kakashi. Emo is short for Emotional, I think it's like the new wave of gothics?? it's basically anyone that has a black fringe, that listens to good charlotte and wears black jeans & stripey shirts.. well that what comes to my mind when I hear the word Emo.

Emo is like really emotional, usually someone that is in touch with their feelings, not afraid to cry. Usually it applys to punk-rock.
