It is safe provided you use proper precuations and have a patient and caring partner.
While tearing of the anal passageway and sphincter can occur, with proper lubrication and relaxation anal sex can be very enjoyable for both partners.
Always use a condom, as it keeps things cleaner (and safer!! any kind of penetration sould involve a condom). Some women prefer to have a enema prior to anal sex, for the sake of cleanliness, but it isn't necessary.
The main thing to remember with anal sex is to relax. If you tighten up your muscles, causing your sphincter to shrink in diameter then tearing is very likely to occur. If you stay relaxed and enjoy the new sensations, you will probably enjoy yourself.
Often (espescially during the initial entry) you may want him to pause so you can adjust to the feeling before going any further. Keep things slow at first, until you're both ready.
Make it clear beforhand with your partner that if you express pain at any point he should stop immediately and touch base with you.
and remember - with anal sex there is no such thing as *too much* lubrication.

It is safe provided you use plenty of lubrication and do it with a patient and caring partner.
In case enough lubrication is not used or forced entry is made, tearing of the anal passageway and sphincter can occur. With suitable (K-Jelly) lubrication and relaxed penetration, anal sex can be an enjoyable experience for both partners. A trick is to squeeze a little K-Jelly into the anus and when you feel the tip of the penis against the rim, try to strain outwards like defaecating which will result in the penis slipping in easily irrespective of its size.
Use of a condom keeps things cleaner and safer. An enema prior to anal sex will also keep the act cleaner.
For anal sex, relax of your sphincter ani must be learnt. If you can relax it, you will enjoy yourself and your partner can get enjoyment in the tighter hole.
HAVE A MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE.

and also, believe it or not, sometimes the wound in the intestines caused by anal sex may open into the vagina which cause feces to pass there and you may see the discharge of feces like material from your vagina....

Anal sex can cause tears in your anus. These tears may bleed. If your partner has any type of diseases, they will be passed very quickly thru these little tears, right into your blood stream.. and it kind of hurts too

be VERY wary of the 'red sock' ; it is what happens when the male takes out his penis too fast which casues the muscles holding the rectum in place to tear due to the vacuum created. This can result in a portion of your colon to protrude out of the anus. surgery is needed to correct it. no one does this on purpose of course, but i have heard it happen to a girl who got walked in on by her parents...

Not really, you can tear it because unlike the vagina it doesn't stretch. If you wanna do it though, always use a condom.
