I have put my fruit away but they are still there. I find they are attracted to my grain products too and have put them in the fridge. Do they like grains as well?

Fruit flies better known as vinegar gnats are attracted to overripe or rotting fruit. Get rid of such fruit and p;ace each fruit in an individual plastic bag.
You can catch and rown fruit flie by using a straight sided cup (plastic is preferable to glass). placing some apple juice in it with a bit of detergent in it. And placing a film of saran wrap (cling film), across the top of the glass. Secure it with a rubber band. Get out a match strike it and blow out the flame when the head is finished burning. Now use the hot heat to burn several holes in the plastic. Do it all over the film except the edge where the plasric meets the galss edge.
The flies will go in but not get out. They will eventually land in the juice and drown.
Fruit flies do not care for stored grain products. But other house bugs do. So store them in glass containers with tight lids. If you want to be careful freeze the grain for several days right after purchasing them, to kill any bugs that may have got into the grain in the grocery store.

To get rid of the fruit flies, you must( you guessed it) get rid of the fruit, or put in an air tight container or in the fridge. You know the flies don't come to the fruit, they are there , they just start flying about when the fruit is ripe. They won't like the air tight container and the fridge will help them chill out.

Place a glass of wine, like a yummy Corton Charlemagne out on the counter.
The fruit flies will get in the glass and you can cover the top and dispose of them as you wish.

I had a problem with this last year due to a hidden rotten potato. I must have had fifty of them.

By accident I discovered that if I set out a small glass of red wine they fly right to it and died. The alcohol must kill them, because even the ones that didn't drown died near the cup. I just left the cup open and changed the wine every few hours because it was really gross to look at.

They still sell the old fashioned fly paper. It is rolled up, very sticky, has a tack included to attach it to your ceiling. You can probably find some at a hardware store, or maybe walmart. It will attract and trap them. Looks real gross if you have alot of bugs on it, but it will do the job.

Mix one cup vinegar, one t sugar, one t liquid soap. Let sit in a bowl. Better yet, make three bowls, leave one in the bathroom, one in the kitchen and well, where you want. Watch them die. Works great. Can also use wine, sugar and soap. Also vinegar, soap, and a little bug spray like raid.

use Marigolds. they should work. marigolds produce a scent which most insects hate.

Too bad there aren't carnivore flies to eat the fruit flies.
