It all depends on what you are using it for......
I am a model railroader so yes, an airbrush is a superb thing to buy.
For $100 dollars you could buy a PASCHE Airbrush and you will need different tips which allow different amounts of paint to come out while painting.
The unique thing about an airbrush is when airbrushing it paints the model with a thin coat which won't take away from detail on any model
The reason why an airbrush is better than a paintbrush is;
AirBrush:
Paint Dries Faster
Paint Goes On Thinner
Easy Clean Up
Doesn't Take Away From Detail
You can mix and match paints to get the color you want
Paintbrush:
Longer for Paint to Dry
Paint is Thicker, which can
ruin detail
You can mix and match paints, but you won't be able to airbrush the mixed paint so it will take longer to dry.
Another thing is don't forget you need an air compressor with resivoir so water won't build up and a hose line so you can paint.

Airbrushing is a lot of fun, but it takes patience and time to become good. Single trigger action is better than a double action trigger for beginners, the double action is a little harder to use.
Im not sure that $100 will buy you a very good one though? Also you need to buy a compressor, which you can pick up mini compressors.
It all adds up to a lot of money.
There are so many different varieties available.
I would do as the person above said, and do a course first.
Or just stick to spray paints.

Its not the kind of thing to buy just for fun... you'll never use it.
Do a course first and if you are getting good at it and feel you are getting enough enjoyment out of the medium to justify the purchase then go ahead.

Yeah, its super fun. You can put tattoo's on and they actually look real, and if you own one then you can refresh them anytime you want, so no one will know its fake lol. But yeah, they are cool, I had one once.

um........i bought one and it came with a lot of stencils it's really pretty...but it's kinda annoying when the paint doesn't come out.....but it's really fun
