Manson himself wasn't present at the killings but he was convicted of murder on January 25 1971 and on March 29 was sentenced to the death penalty . The death sentence was later automatically commuted to life in prison after the California Supreme Court 's People v. Anderson decision resulted in the invalidation of all death sentences imposed in California prior to 1972
Pretty much sums it up. Because of liberals people like Manson in California can get out on parole and kill again.
In short if you vote for liberals you get what you vote for.

How can you give Manson the death penalty when he didn't do the killing?
He has those messed up chicks wrapped around his finger.
And they were too young to execute.
He sells locks of his hair for ten bucks and plays guitar.
He is at home in the prison system.
He was raised there.
Don't think he will ever be paroled.
Can you imagine Charlie(that is what everybody calls him) on Dr PHIL?
And Dr Phil offering to pay for Charlies counseling.?
Dr Phil doesn't have enough money for that.
Suggest reading "HELTER SKELTER"...fascinating book.
Very 60's
Misc:excerpt from wikipedia
Since his trial and conviction, Manson's name and image have been integrated into American pop culture generally as a symbol of ultimate evil. Both have been used by many artists (mostly musicians). He was also friends with several notable musicians before the murders were committed, including Dennis Wilson of The Beach Boys, and is a marginally successful musician himself whose songs have been covered by many artists.

Parts of being in the Manson family sounded like it might have been kinda fun...
like "creepy crawling" which is sneaking into peoples house in the middle of the night and re arranging the furniture.

Everybody sentenced to death when the Supreme Court rejected the death penalty was given life with the possibility of parole.
And there is most certainly a death penalty in California.

Like others have said, he did get the death penalty but alas...
He will never be paroled and I'd be willing to bet that's just the way he wants it.
Most of the "family" involved that night are still in jail and go up for parole and get denied.
2 great websites for info:
http://www.crimelibrary.com/serial_killers/notorious/manson/now_9.html
www.charliemanson.com
Check the 2nd site and you will see just how many people were in the "family" , far more than were involved in the murders and most are in prisons for other crimes.

I am an adamint supporter of the deathpenalty. The reason manson isn't on death row is because they got rid of the death penalty where he was when he was convicted, as for possibility of parole, I had no idea.

Because after he was put on death row, the United States did away with the death penalty. When they brought it back, those that were on it couldn't be put back on it. All of their sentences were commuted to life or life without PArole.

Are you kidding me? Inciting a person to cut the belly of a pregnant women doesn't merit the death penalty? That is insanity!
