I'm always seeing people on the news driving into buildings and houses, or running people over, thinking they were signposts. I saw an old woman last week, back into a metal railing in front of the supermarket. Why don't they force these kind of people to take public transportation?

Because a lot of the "incompetent" people don't feel they are incompetent. They might not notice that they are having problems with their driving. A lot of states don't require driving tests... just written tests... and years between taking them. They might have been fine when they took the test, but 5 years later... not. Concerned family members or doctors should be able to say the person needs to be retested for driving. I believe that the public should be able to report when they see things like running over signposts or hitting buildings... and the reports should be investigated. But, what is to stop them from driving without a license? To many older individuals, they believe it is their right to drive and also a lot of times they view it as a freedom they have.
