What makes a good restaurant.?
We visited a restaurant in England and the food was excellent. In fact it was one of the best meals that I’ve had in a long time.

But it was all let down on process.

We waited almost three hours for our meal. There was no apology from the waiter or waitress. In fact they were both quite surly. And when our meal finally arrived, one of the orders was wrong. One of our party ended up waiting another 15 minutes for the right meal and then had the embarrassment of eating whilst the rest of us had finished.

What can we learn from this?

Product alone is not enough. We have to get the process right too. Good processes mean having good systems (systems that everyone can follow), good leadership (to enforce those systems) and good communication (so that our customers and our Team know what is going on).

Apply these principles to your business. Have you got the processes right?

And remember, many people will willingly pay more for an improved service.

If you ever have the chance, you have to go to Odysseys in Denver. I don't know if they have any other restaurants in the country, but I went their once when visiting and it is the MOST awesome place. You have your pick of surroundings, Ocean, Serengeti plains in Africa or Amazon rain forest. They have these 360 degree movie screens and you see film all around you as well as the sounds, as if you were in these places while you eat. It is SO amazing and the food is totally great too. A dining experience I'll never forget. We chose the African plain. We started out in the rain forest, but the thunder and monkey noises were scaring a little kid that was with us, so the hostess put us somewhere else....

A good restaurant is one where people would want to come back another time for a meal, and where people would recommend to their friends...

Because of the service, or food, or ambience.
