I'm just really worried about not being able to learn it because I'm older and I think it would be embarrassing to be with kids that are better at it!

Don't be discouraged by what some of the others are saying as a response! You are never too old to learn and you can always find a class for adults! I take ballet lessons through the dance department at my University where I get three credits for each class I take. I also take beginner jazz and beginner tap dance lessons at a dance studio nearby, and I'm 21 years old! The classes are divided by age and ability... so I take lessons with other beginners ages 18 to probably 40ish. It's so much fun! I suggest looking online for a dance studio... just type in a search engine "dance lessons" and then the name of the city in which you live and the state. You'll find something. They're all over the place.

Well, it depends on the teacher and the school you go to. Most likely if you go to a RAD recognised school (Royal Academy of Dance) it will take a shorter time, because they have more highly qualified teachers. But it also depends on natural talent, which you might have, seeing as you have really strong ankles, but let me suggest that you do NOT do pointe in anything but pointe shoes. That's the worst possible thing an aspiring ballerina can do.Its a perfect way to break your ankle ,and you might never be able to dance again. It took me about 6 years to get on pointe, your ankles have to be able to support the weight of your whole body, and that takes a long while to achieve. Anyway, good luck with your ballet classes, and I think 3 days a week is perfect. It might take you at least 8 or 9 years to become a great ballet dancer, but then again, it depends on what grade they put you in.

Locally, we have adult ballet classes. Anyone can join regardless of level, but the class itself is taught at a beginning to intermediate level. It's $15 for about 75-90 minutes.

I've actually looked into it and most ballet schools do have beginning ADULT ballet classes. They can be a little bit pricey, so I would suggest taking one or two at a local community college. Most of then are quite good and they're relatively cheap.

Look in your cities leisure guide, most often there are classes offered to adults for beginners. They don't cost a lot either so if you don't like it or whatever, you only wasted $60 or something. Dance studios offer beginner classes too for adults

You know what, why does it matter if children get a giggle out of an adult, dances with them... Don't worry about it - get the grace and smoothness that is obtained... Haven't you heard that football players take these sorts of classes for grace, stretching, and fitness? I say go for it. Ask the instructor - I bet you are not the only one.

if you are keen, go do it or you'll regret it later when you have other commitments like work and love and family. 18 is still ok to learn dancing, if you are worried about being the oldest in a class of kiddies, can join line dance where you'll be a kiddie there, no offence to line dancers cos I am one myself. The important thing is your mind, if you are set on it, your body will follow.

Classes are selected by age groups. Do not worry you will be in an adult surrounding class.
