of course yes the gas that our bodies release is called metano. and the smelling it must be bad because that is the sign that let us know when something is wrong in our digestive system.
If that gas were lack of smell, you couldn't be able to find out when you are sick, or when you have problems with the peptides and other enzymes inside of you.
so responding to your original question yes if that person is alone in the middle of the wood or tundra or whatsoever place; the gas will smell depending what kind of food that person ate until the point were his stomach created that gas which it might be very unpleasant or mild unpleasant, but never nice.
we don't expel roses we expel human waste.
