By "southern", I meant their sound and influence.

Like Kid Rock (wherever he is). He's rock-rap/southern... in musical style. But he's from Detroit.

Anyway, I asked cuz I'm pigmentally impaired when it comes to being white, but I love their music.
(plus I saw a Skynyrd t-shirt on special and didn't buy it cuz I wasn't sure)

I can say this with full confidence: Lynyrd Skynyrd was not racist in anyway. People take Sweet Home Alabama in the wrong way. It wasn't meant to be a racist song. It was a response to Neil Young's "Southern Man" and "Alabama". Ronnie VanZant (RIP), the heart and soal of Skynyrd was not at all racist. Though he grew up in the poorer section of Jacksonville, with only one black family, he didn't care if people were black or white. He was a fan of Jimmi Hendrix, and other African American artists. I could go on more, but just trust me on this, Lynyrd Skynyrd was not racist (and still aren't).

Lynyrd Skynyrd and CCR both are NOT racist. I've been to concerts held by both---and have seen many black people in the audience who actually enjoyed the shows.

I've even heard a demo tape of a Southren rock band, thinking they were white. Turns out they were a five piece band of BLACK guys who very well perform that genre of rock music....and don't have a problem with it.

Southren Rock is a genre with a misunderstood image, quite akin to Harley bikers. And some who proudly fly the Confederate "Stars and Bars" flag are a non-racist part of that Southren Rock genre.

I never knew or will ever know the individuals in the bands to say what their personal feelings were but from all the music I've ever heard my assumption would be absolutely not. These people seemed to be all about their music and not putting down people opposite there skin hue. Creedance isn't a southern band.

Why, because Skynard is from the south? All "Sweet Home Alabama" is, is an answer song to Neil Young's "Alabama" and "Southern Man." Is he a racist?

Just cause it's a song that reflects pride in Alabama, it doesn't mean they're racist. I've never heard them espouse any racist remarks. And I have no idea why you'd think CCR would be rascist?

I am not really sure on that. They are from the south and raised in that environment but that doesnt really make them racist. They used the Rebel Flag but that doesnt make them racist either. I enjoy the music that they made. I havnt noticed in any of the lyrics anything that suggests it.

Nah, they're just great bands. They're not like Adventures of Huck Finn or anything, so a discussion on the times and what was acceptable probably isn't necessary.

Im sorry but it has gotten to the point that if people want some thing to be racist , it will be. I dont think the confederate flag is racist, or offensive, but there are alot of people that would disagree with me. You do what makes you comfortable and be ready to defend your views. If you like their music and wanna wear their t's do it, but be prepare to explain to those that gotta start arguments that your not racist, ect, you just like the music.
