Madalyn,
Thanks for your question.
I could only find one reference to this match in the media, a Melbourne Age report from June 28.
http://www.theage.com.au/news/aussie-update/socceroo-retirements-on-the-cards/2006/06/27/1151174202662.html?page=fullpage#contentSwap1
Graham Arnold, the acting coach was predicting, a number of retirements after the World Cup.
If Arnold does decide to hold the fort until a full-time replacement is found, he is hoping to convince some senior players to change their mind about retiring, but is not holding out too much hope.
"There's players who are 30 to 31 who could maybe help us qualify for the Asian Cup rather than leaving straight away," he said. "That'd be great, but to be honest, I think there'll be a heap of retirements. Maybe 10 to 12 players — at the moment, they probably won't say a lot publicly because they're a bit emotional.
"But from tomorrow, I think we're talking about a whole new era. A whole new national team. And the ones who don't retire, I don't know how committed they'll be for the Asian Cup. The fringe players have to step up to the plate, we'll be exposing them to international football and hopefully making them stronger. But whatever happens, there's definitely a rebuilding program getting underway."
Go the Socceroos.
Regards

1. The Aussie WC players have commitments to their clubs whose seasons starts in August. So they have to see this through, and it's their club that pays their salary! Imagine playing for Australia and getting injured or worse still, broke a leg ala Cisse!
2. This tournament is not telecast live to a lot of countries, just some Asian ones, which may not be inducive to their career.
3. Even with a "weakened" squad, the Aussies should win this one.

Its down to timing, the Australian Football Players that play for clubs in other countries would have problems as their clubs Football season would only have a couple of days before it starts, when the game is due to be played. I feel very sorry as every Footballer loves to play for their Country.
