This will probably be of little or no help to you, but it's interesting to me. A friend of mine used to live in Washington and moved here to Oklahoma. The first time I went to her house I told her she had the nicest house in the nicest neighborhood, really big and fancy. She said that in Washington they lived in a little dump of a house, but when they sold it, they got so much money for it, (because everything is so expensive in Washington) that when they got to Oklahoma they paid for that big nice house with what they got from selling the one in Washington and didn't even have to take out at loan.

Everything is cheaper in Oklahoma so that might not be a good example of living expenses. I live in a pretty good 3 bedroom 2 bath house on 11 acres and it cost about $70,000. A similar house on a city lot is worth about $40,000.
