Rome had many ideals that made them a super power; Politically the senate, representatives of each region would talk for them in the taking of decisions and ordering what to do,
Socially the fact that Rome was a melting pot for cultures in the beginning, means they accepted whoever wanted to live there and in the military they had the technology of their roads and an amazingly organized army, something almost unheard of at the time (Only the Greeks and their hoplites were very organized). Along with this the Romans had leaders that had a single purpose, to make Rome greater no matter the cost.

For Rome's greatest weakness we could say was the fact that power shifted from the senate to the emperor (not necessarily a bad thing, unless an idiot is the emperor) and many emperors were idiots. They also became arrogant and thinking they were a superior people began to threat foreigners in cruel ways.In the their greed and comfort of being the greatest nation brought their downfall when the barbarians began to rise.

In the end I could say that Rome's Strength was their complex society and their will to rise and their weakness the comfort and greed that being that society brought them... the more you try to hug the less you'll be able to press.

For strengths thier architecture and technologies that helped bring about modern society. They were the first to build roads and the pioneered the use of reinforced concrete. This was essential in building the monuments that still stand today. They also were able to invent an odometer which was necessary in the construction of roads, which made it possible for them to easily mobilize thier vast legions throughout the eastern world. Thier system of government was unparalelled even by todays standard and was one of the templates for the american system that we have today. I would have to say for weaknesses, they were very warlike and indignant, often spreading themselves far too thin without fully assimilating the lands that they had conquered. This can be a fatal flaw not in gaining control of a country but in maintaining control. I believe that is where thier campaign of expansionalism fell short.

The biggest weakness of ancient Rome is that it no longer exists and therefore has no strength.
