Hamster's are usually fairly tolerant of the heat. But since they've been kept in air conditioning it is important to not let them get too hot for too long. So if you stop on the way home, do not leave the Hamster in the car. Be sure to read up on Hamster care before you get one and get all the supplies that you will need also. Hamsters are cute, but solitary pets - you do not need to get them a playmate - they usually will attack each other unless they are litter-mates - and even then they will bite each other. They will also bite their owners if they are scared, so be prepared and don't drop the poor little thing if it accidentally gets scared and bites. Enjoy your trip to Tulsa - it is a bit hotter than Jay.

I don't know where Jay is... but a hamster can survive for quite a long time as long as he has water and is kept fairly cool. I assume you're driving? Just keep the hamster in his little box with some bedding and put a small dish of water with a sponge cut to fit in it. This stops the water from spilling and will make sure your hamster gets home safe. Congratulations on your new pet!

I am not familiar with your area...so I don't know how far it is you plan to travel, but as long as you are sure to keep the hamster in a cool place such as in the car with the air turned on the little guy should be okay.

A helpful hint: Have the cage ready and with you so you can put the little guy in it for the ride home...those little boxes they put them in at the pet store don't help much as the hamster can chew the way out.

Good Luck to you and your new pet:)

If you are travelling in an air conditioned car, there should be no problem with temperature. You may want to get a small travelling cage (a plastic Critter Keeper or something) to let him ride in, though, since I had one of my hamsters chew through the cardboard box on a five minute drive home once :)

he should be fine
just dont leave him out in the car
though i wouldnt recommend a hamster if you want a pet that you can hold and play with
a guinea pig is a better option for something like that
and petco is a shady place to buy animals
they dont do such a good job at taking care of them from what ive seen

I bought one awhile back
keep it cool in the car but not COLD
get a decent sized box if you are going to be in the car a reallly long time.
you could put some bedding in the box
pet it while it is in it...
mine didn't die it was in the box for an hour until i got home and put it in its cage...
