If you aren't open to other people's wisdom ,you limit your 'knowledge' and potential.
But since 'knowledge is power' ,someone who appears confident of their own opinions can fool a lot of people ,and more importantly ,themselves into respecting them (at least for a while).

They say that 'Those who can, do, and those who can't, teach'
I guess that applies to this question, know-it-alls being the people who cannot do.

It takes a lot of time to learn all that stuff they know in the first place, and they spend a lot of time thinking. It gets hard for them to do anything, because they can often see a lot of sides to the same problem, and they can see that each path has it's own advantages. When you know a lot, actually doing things becomes harder. Maybe the reverse is true as well? That is to say, it's easy to do things when you don't fully understand the consequences of your actions- less guilt when things go wrong I suppose.

Now, the cutting edge! That's when someone who knows just enough about the problem decides to take action and gets a postive effect, puts thought into practice. It's great when that happens.

They probably do know it all unless you're on about bigots or gossips.
Like me, they talk with this pious authoritative air which gets right up peoples noses. So, the listener dislikes the 'know it all' so much, they just aren't interested in the veracity of their knowledge and dismiss them out of hand. Noone likes to be reminded of their own shortcomings either.
Would you rather your surgeon was cofident or a ditherer. If a know-it-all gives advice, it's perhaps best they do so with confidence. Erm...i think I might be on the right track here. Er, I could be wrong. Ask someone else. I ain't gotta clue.

no one knows it all although some are better at memorising things and can spu out facts at any given situation,i once knew a guy who had memorised the whole bible any page you opened he could quote word for word any chapter ,i don't know how much good that did him. The people that like to have an opinion on everything and voice it even if it is relevant or true are just looking for attention .They feel inferior in some way.

They must know it too - I mean that they don't know very much. And even if they arn't aware of how ignorant they are, surely they must be aware of others' frustration toward them as they are so annoying. So try to forgive them.

Whats the difference betweem a know it all who rarely does, and someone who dosn't who knows it? At least the know it all has a try! Take Care

like in the quote on the link below - wisest is he that knows that he knows nothing.

people who come to think of themselves as holders of "all" the information are missing the point a bit. if you answer one question right, then another, then another, and take this as proof that you know everything, well, good luck to you.

people who can provide useful advice, and insight are people who realise that there knowledge is perspectival and limited. these people understand themselves better, and so can probably help you more.

Knowledge is a closed circle.

Once you have reached the end of all knowledge, you're right back at the beginning of no knowledge.

I am sure we all know a few "know-it-alls" and I guess they are all out to impress by their knowledge of "everything" - deep down I guess they have insecurities and frailties just like us more mortals..
