i think in both cases, you 'see' characteristics in ppl that attract you (or that you dislike) i would venture to say either way it is what's in you that you like or dislike. if its something you like about yourself, you like them, if its something you dislike about yourself, you will dislike them.

This could be answered on many different levels:
Biological-you do not like the pheremones the person emits (the way they smell), you deem that the person is not a good person to breed with
Physiological-you do not like the body shape, for example people are attracted to symmetrical faces and repulsed by unsymmetrical ones
Social-you find the character and mannerisms to be different from your own or repulsive
Psychological-something about them reminds you of a person who hurt or upset you in the past
Parapsychological-you were enemies in a past life
Spiritual-you deem the person does not have a moral character, or you see their soul in their eyes and find it flawed or lacking
Heritage-your parents raised you to be slightly racist or biased (directly or indirectly)
Cosmetic-you judge the person soley on outward appearance
Superficial-you judge the person by their style of clothing or hair style
This answer actually is more complicated then the question calls for, but then again if its going to be in the Physics section then I think it deserves a complicated answer.
Plus I just like picking things apart. =)

Must be something to do with taste, ie certain tunes, works of art, buildings immediately revolt. I cant see why human qualities should be excluded from the list.
There are certain people who instantly revolt me. Not many thank goodness!

Vibes. I trust them. Even when a person I had bad vibes about, turns out to be a friend later. It keeps you on your toes. Not everyone you meet can be a friend, but all have a potential to be an enemy.

Because we think that someone's personality is reflected in how they look - which isn't always the case.
(I'm impressed I managed that sentence, as it's 5:30am, and my eyes are asking for sleep)

People tend to judge others just by the way they look.
