Why do young teenage girls ask people what they think of them and show a picture? Call me over protective, but are you crazy? I would throw my computer in the yard if my daughter did that. Paents put your computer where you can see what your kids are doing. I would hate to know that someone's child got hurt because of this stupidity. Girls, what does it matter what other people think- much less a stranger? You are putting yourself and family at risk. You could get kidnapped, raped or killed. All so someone can tell you you're cute. What are you thinking?

Right on the spot! I have two girls 11 and 13 and they use the Internet often. We have this talk almost weekly and I have installed spy-ware to track who they're talking to.

That may not sound fair, but to me their privacy is not as important as their lives and it's my duty to protect them until old enough to see things for themselves (30 yrs old : ) ). Any parent who doesn't know the danger has been hiding under a rock and or is a complete idiot.

I collect all the CNN stories about children who became victims and share them with my girls and son.

Almost all teenagers think they know what they're doing but even adults with years of life experience are often led to their deaths. Just ask any Detective in any city.

to many parents think there child is sensible and doing the right thing all of the time. Its important to the girl that they look pretty and and hearing it from a stranger not a friend or family that they are more then likely to tell the truth. the child does not really fully understand the consequence of what they are really doing. they think that things like that only happens to other people and not them. I agree with you the parents have to be more responsible and making sure that the computer is set up the way that makes it hard for them but where there is a will there is way. you can not watch them 24 7 there has to be trust but the child also needs to be put in the right place.

Girls are under tremendous pressure from society to look a certain way. They are given the impression that the only thing that matters is appearance. I see ten year olds in the mall with half tops and mini skirts. It's terrible. As the mother of a daughter, I'm going to limit her TV viewing and hope to set a better example.

What I'm thinking is about the convo I'm going to have with my daughter tonight. I read Oprah's website on her current crusade on busting child molestors (sp) and I've been duly educated. I've had the web safety talk with my kids, but I feel it's time for a refresher after reading her article. I'm also going to the public library with my kids and ask them to take me touring on their chat sites. I'll just sit and observe without any negative comment and later I'll discuss what I like and don't like about the measures they've taken to protect themselves from predators. This epidemic of finding youth in chat rooms and the web is very scary, because parents aren't always aware of when their kids have net access. God Bless.

undergo in innovations that 15 year olds are less than the age of consent, so going out should be ALL that you'll do at her age, and also you would should be very careful about that. notwithstanding, i imagine you'd be smart to attend in case you opt for this lady on your existence for a lengthy time period. Very, very few people knew what we needed at 15, and for most persons, boyfriends did not very last lengthy at that age. because you're a lot older, issues ought to probable be more effective constructive in case you wait till she is a junior or senior in extreme college.

I agree, we are a dumb, lost generation and need to change. some girls feel insecure in the place where they live though, so they compensate on the internet. Warn your daughter, and her friends, i am probly the only teenager in my town with a computer that doesn't have a myspace, and has never been in a chat room, all thanks to my Mom, i really thank and love her for that.

Out of curiosity, influence of peer group, etc. A lot of factors actually, but most of all blame it to technology. Most of us did something crazy at the same stage of life but more controlled due to constraints on many things like parents may be more stricter in our time, etc.

I used to do the same thing when I was younger & I'm lucky to be safe, alive, & well! I know where those young girls are coming from, though, & it mostly stems from low self-esteem. If they are anything like me, they just need a better relationship with their father.

Everyone goes through those awkward, insecure stages in life. This is what's going on. They want to be told that they're attractive, they want to be wanted. It's all just a self esteem boost.
