Can you take classes for it in college or do you need to be certified with a seperate program? Also, I live in po-dunk town Florida. I can move around in the state, but I cant leave the state due to family reasons. Does anybody know anything that will help me?

usually a trade school offers certification in gemology. sometimes there are levels for various years of education. gem technician, gem specialist, and gemologist are the three most common levels. Often chain jewlery stores like Zales will send their sales staff to continuing education classes in gemology and then give them levels like "nationally certified gemologist"" or "industry certified gemologist"

Try the gemology institute of America, they probably have a web site, i know they offer classes in gemology. You could study for colored stones or diamonds.GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
