Recognize that many other people bite their fingernails. Sometimes people are not even aware that they are doing so. Perhaps you do not always realize you are biting your nails.
Figure out when you are biting your nails the most. Is it during work, while commuting, or while worried or stressed about something? After you figure out the situations in which you bite your nails, then you need to figure out the underlying "trigger events" that cause you to do so. Sometimes there is one emotion that you might not even be aware of that triggers the nail biting.
Carry around an emory board to help to smooth your nails. Often people who bite their nails first choose rough-edged nails to bite.
Place bitter-tasting cream on your fingernails to remind you that you are biting your nails - and to stop you from biting them.
Replace the bad habit of biting your nails with a good habit. Every time you notice that you are biting your nails, stop it and do something healthy - like smiling, doing a push-up or breaking into a song (the latter only works in certain locations!)
Maintain your desire to break the habit. The bottom line in beating any habit is desire. If you desire to kick the habit you will do so, and with the right help you can stop biting your nails.
I bit my nails but I'm trying a metiod. .. carry chewing gum pop 1 or 3 in your mouth when you feel like bitting. USE BUBBLIOUS!!

You spit out the nail that's in your mouth. Now if you want to stop. They have something in the baby section. Its a safe chemical that helps them stop sucking there thumbs. If you don't want to stop, then....eat jello, because i hear it helps your nails grow strong and fast. That means more nails to chew...your own.

either give yourself a manicure or have one done, if your nails look nice maybe you will be less likely to bite them.

I kept myself busy. I'd do something else with my hands like play with my hair, write, play a sport, anything to keep my hands in motion and away from my mouth.
