You have nothing to worry about! My Husband got into an accident 2wks after our 1st child was born. Same exact situation as your husband! Stayed in hospital about 6 months in all, and in the phyc ward for 3months. I was very open and honest with him all the way. He felt like he could not go on and tried killing himself several many times, then one morning I had enough, got up & told him to get ready to eat breakfast, and he said, "yeah-ok." Then I let it all out, I told him that , the only reason our son was in our life was because of him, the only reason we wake up in the morn is because of our Love for him, and when we got married we vowed til death do us part. I also told him that he was givin the oppertunity to have a mother and father, so why shoudn't your SON have the same op. And If you think that you can't go on , because you r scared of what ppl will think of you or Us then u need to get off your high horse and be there 4 ur family the same way we r there 4 you everyday, and it takes Love, commitment, sacrifice, patience, and persistance...never give up exspecially on your FAMILY. .....
Today my husband is 2 yrs out of the wheel chair , and the Docs said he wouldn't make it a year! That was 7 yrs ago. And all it took was Love, faith, family, and physical therapy 2 times a week sometimes more .....today he walks where ever he wants too.

Medical science is coming up with new treatments each day. It is not easy to be there and watch. Rehab is the place to get to once the surgery to stablize everything is stable.

You must remind him that medical science is coming up with miracles every day and he should want to be healthy to jump on if the opportunity for new treatment comes up. Some communities have outpatient physical therapy with a doctor's prescription that kicks in the payments usually. That might at least get him started.

Pray for him. He is depressed and reasonably so in his situation. Encourage him, be patient, don't give up and don't let him give you. Pray for wisdom for yourself to be able to say the right things to him. Trust in the Lord and do good.
