The previous answer is correct Barbie's creator named the doll after her daughter Barbara. Barbie was also based on a German doll and comic strip character.....all three inspirations were white.

The time period that Barbie came out should answer your question. Also Barbie was probably white because she was named after a real female.

Because at the time it was made, corporate america was focused on white children. This was in the 50's, when a person of color would never be considered an appropriate role model for beauty.
Instead of worrying about the past indiscretions of others, focus on changing the now. We have come a long way, but have further to go

Probably because Mattel only thought of the mass population when they first started making Barbies. The consciousness was not quite there back in the sixties!

The creator of Barbie was probably white so obviously they just thought to make it white. I don't think it was meant to be anything racial.

Apparently it was for the designer's daughter, named Barbie. Therefore, I would assume she was white. My mom had one. But she had dark brown hair, not blonde. She also looked very mean.
