It is a known fact that a motor is powered by electricity like in a RC car, and that an engine is powered buy a fuel, such as gasoline. So why is it that when you go to an autoparts store looking for oil fro your car every can says MOTOR oil?????? I'm sure the people who make this stuff should be smart enough to know the difference.

Engines create energy and motors do not.
It's motorhead speak to call an engine a motor.
Like Mopar actually means more power.
It's a thing

There are different brands of motor oils, such as that for cars..which that is the name they decided to use as most people associate an engine with a motor..trust me..this I know..just like lawnmowers..you should be using an HD motoroil and not anything else..High Detergent is what the hd stands for and is best for all four cycle engines....

They are the same thing. They have taken on different uses as suggested: engine is "internal" combustion but includes steam engines which are external combustion and motor is used as electrical. But they are actually completely interchangeable. Neither term excludes one kind of energy conversion from the other.

A motor is a machine that converts some form of energy into mechanical energy.

An engine is something that produces some effect from a given input.

i always thought a 'motor' was electric and an 'engine' was powered by combustion - and then someone asked me why Henry named his operation The Ford Motor Company. So much for that theory...........

An engine converts thermal energy to work. A motor also converts energy into work, but its mainly considered rotary mechanical work.
