They will defend the title IF they get through the qualifying rounds. Just like any other country, they have to go through the World Cup Qualifiers before they can join the other 31 countries in the World Cup. Only the host country (in the case for 2010 - South Africa) is exempted from going through the qualifying rounds.

I don't believe when they say that the Italy team wins only every 24 years or whatever they say! I think that Italy will the 2010 world cup! They are going all the way!!!

If they qualify from the European qualifying group, they have a chance of retaining. Since 2002, holders do not have a divine right to qualify the following World Cup to defend their title.

Of course they'll defend it...not only defend but they'll try to bring the trophy home again. They're an excellent team..they brought the trophy home 4 time why couldn't they do it again??

They will try, but the opposition will be fierce and they probably won't make it all the way to the gold. In my book they're second only to Argentina, so I'll be rooting for them (at least until the two have to play each other).

they will not win it in 2010. brazil won in in 1958 and 1962. after that no other country has won it twice in a row.
