Yes, you should definately try to take some CPR or First Aide classes. Make sure that if you're taking the CPR classes they're the ones geared towards children/infants as well, because the general one focuses mostly on adults.
Also some places offer special babysitting classes that most parents would consider a benefit.
I started babysitting at 12, by babysitting my cousin's (she was 2 years old at the time) friends and their siblings. That was a while ago, and I don't think that kids start babysitting at 12 anymore.
Another good idea would be to make sure that you have idea for what to do with the kids while the parents are out and also think about what you would do in the case of an emergency. Parents might ask questions like that. Try to provide the parents with refrences if possible, or give them a resume of your experience.
Good luck!

I started babysitting at 12, I think you're ok. You should take a babysitting class... or CPR lessons. You should maybe start out with a neighbor or relative to babysit for so you can build references. If you can prove yourself responsible enough, people will not mind having a 14 year old babysitter. Plus, your rates are more than likely reasonable.. some people pay hundreds of dollars to day care places to watch their kids! Others will take a responsible 14 year old over anything else. Good luck!

Take babysitting classes at the YMCA. They will teach you a lot of important things about how to deal with children as well as infant & child CPR. This will be a BIG positive for parents who are looking for a babysitter. It will help you gain confidence with them. AND it will help you do a better job!!
Much Love!!

Well I'm 14 too and started babysitting at 12. First i started babysitting my baby cousins when my aunts and uncles when out. Then i starting babysitting for my neighbors kids. All these people will recommend you (if your good) to their friends/family if they ever need a babysitter. That's how it worked for me and business is good lol.

Go to your local fire station and see if they offer CPR/First Aid classes and see about getting certified. You can also place an ad on Craigslist. They have a section for childcare where lots of people place ads looking for babysitters and babysitters looking for jobs.

Like I did, I would start by babysitting for young family members first, then if you have done good, your relatives might recommend you to someone else. Don't worry, it takes a while to get noticed. If you're passing out fliers people might think you're a crazy person! Who would trust you that way?

i would try babysitting someone you might know already and if not them ask someone who knows people with kids. 14 is a younger age for babysitting, but that is still on you wether you know how to or not.
