The Dodgers acquired pitcher Elmer Dessens from the Kansas City Royals for pitchers Odalis Perez, Blake Johnson and Julio Pimentel and cash.
I mean it's not a "big deal" but still, this makes no sense to me. What are the Dodgers thinking? The Royals got 3 players and $ for Dessens??

to the silent s guy who made a comment....you're right dessens is a guy the dodgers can trust....but I still would not have done this trade, because dessens isn't a set-up guy or closer which is what the dodgers need. A mike gonzalez from the pirates makes much more sense since he can set-up or close. odalis is not very good anyway but there are teams even more unintelligent than the royals who would not only take perez but also give a decent player in return. The dodgers have sooooooo many amazing prospects---only the d-backs, and the angels have better all around farm systems. They have joel guzman, andy laroche, james loney, chad billingsley, willy aybar, andre ethier ( still a semi-prospect), matt kemp, russell martin. Now of course to get gonzalez they wouldn't even need to give up any of those players....because as I mentioned the dodgers have an amazing system and could give them good prospects that because they are so stacked they may not be able to use in delwyn young and greg miller. i love greg miller so maybe maybe their asian shortstop Hu, their surplus of outfielders with justin ruggiano and anthony raglani who are ready to play..or infielders blake dewitt, and travis denker. See where I'm going with this? The dodgers have the resources to get any player they want and they settle on dessens.......but at least they shed perez's contract.

The Dodgers are struggling right now. They know they needed to pick up a quality pitcher before the deadline. The prospects that they traded were not all that good and Perez has never turned into the player he was hyped up to be. Dessens is not a great pitcher by any means but he has been relatively injury free and dependable his whole career. Not the move that will bolster the Dodgers into the playoffs but could certainly improve their chances.

im a dodger.they save 3 million dollars.
both prospects have era's of over 5 so they both suck.
also dessens is someone the dodgers trust.
he has pitched 2 innings since the trade has 2 strike outs and an era of 0,i feel its a good trade.

The Dodgers were desperate to get rid of Perez-he was doing nothing for the team, had a very (reportedly) bad attitude, and wanted out. The Dodgers wanted to get a least a little something for him and didn't want to simply waive him.

because the Dodgers need a new GM AGAIN...cause they're freaking stupid...example: Paul Depodesta...he's got to be the dumbest GM ever in the history of baseball. he traded Paul Lo Doca for I forgot who..and traded Adrian Beltre WHEN HE WAS HAVING THE BEST YEAR OF HIS CAREER AND AN MVP TYPE SEASON..ABSOLUTELY CLUELESS IS DEPODESTA AND THE DODGERS CURRENT GM.
