I won't be mean, I'll just tell you this. So far in my life, my father, brother, favorite brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, and several friends have died from lung cancer due to smoking. My mom has emphysema from smoking, my sister died from heart problems due to chain smoking, and I have asthma from breathing their second hand smoke all my life (I have never smoked). If you want to know why not to smoke, look up lung cancer on Google images and find some pics of a healthy lung versus one of a smoker.
It's not fun to watch someone you love die from something they did to themselves. I imagine it's even less fun to be the one dying. Smoking is a slow form of suicide. It's more addictive than heroin. Would you do heroin? Then don't smoke.

Tell them that cheeseburger is slowly killing them, but that doesn't stop them from doing something they enjoy.
or.....
It's a good thing you don't smoke!
or.......
Thank god you told me, they really should put warning labels on these things.
or......
Oh I don't inhale so it's okay.
or......
You could just ignore them, everyone has an opinion on smoking, some are more forward than others. It is addictive, and sure we could quit, but maybe we don't want to. Lot's of thing are bad for you, and people still do them, smoking is no different.

Tell them the truth, I know it's bad for me, but I don't want to stop or I can't stop or I don't know how to stop. The real point is, if someone is pointing this out to you, it means they care about you. You should feel good about the point that someone cares, but if you really don't want to stop smoking, nothing will make you stop. You don't have to pretend to other people, it's your life or death. No can be responsible for you except you. If you really want to smoke, I'd tell everyone else, it's none of your business, but thanks for caring.

tobacco is a sacred plant meant to be used to honor the Great Spirit, so smoking itself is not bad for you, it's the bastardization of something sacred that causes the problem. when you use something daily without the spiritual aspect then you can cause yourself to become out of balance, this causes dis-ease within the body and illness and death can be the result.
