Do you think they should be allowed to do it, or will it affect their school work too much?

It all depends on how much school work they have and how much time they want to devote to studying. Also take into consideration sports. Also, if you want to have a social life, you will have to schedule around that as well. As a student athlete, I find it a bit too busy to work durring the sports seasons. There is simply not enough time to devote to both school work and sports. I would recommend a weekend job durring these busy times. I would also reccomend trying to find a flexible job so that you can change your schedule with ease if something were to come up. I would recomend a part time job, but as long as you aren't over working yourself.

I think it is essential for older students to have a part time job. It is an introduction to the real world, gives them a little independence and teaches the value of money, because they have to earn their pocket money instead of receiving a hand out from their parents. I worked in a small supermarket after school, and weekends, from age of 11. In the long school summer break I worked nearly full time. This meant I had my own money to spend how I liked. It didn't effect my study and results.

I think it depends on the person. I wouldn't suggest it for someone struggling in school but for a mature, responsible student, I say go for it! What's a better way to teach responsibility than to let a teen-ager earn some money.

They should as long as their parents set guidelines as to what should come first, which should be education then work. Work hours should not be too late. My daughter has worked since she was 15 and still managed to do well in school.

Depends how much they work. I work full time (40hrs) during summer and 30hrs during the school year, which is way too much. Limit hours to maybs 20 hrs/week.
