OK, for all you bible bngers who decided to put their 2 cents in, let me make sure that I have this right.

While it is not OK (hence a sin) for me to be involved in a long term, monogamous, loving relationship with a same gender partner, it IS OK for you to strike me, call me names, attempt to call down the wrath of your god on me and various other negative and hateful things.

Hrmmm..... and people wondered why I walked away from the christian churches a long time ago. After 9 years of Catholic school though, I still have a fairly good command of the important parts of the rough translation of that original book of myths. Last time I checked, there is nothing in the 10 commandments about marriage being between a man and a woman, nor anyhting about having to be gay or straight. At least you know we are not coveting our neighbor's wife (but the neighbor on the other hand...). We are more likely to honor our parents, naturally, as we all crave their acceptance, and thanks to you all, we have to work that much harder.

I beleive also, that when asked, "What is the most important commandment?" Jesus (who is the son of god is he not?) states, "To love one another as I have loved you." And he sat with the poeple who were considered the lowest of the low. Bankers, Lawyers, Prostitutes (and no, Mary Magdalene was not one) and the sick. Last time I checked, you bankers and lawyers may want to watch, as you could be next on the list.

I guess the real question is, why, if you are so right, do you need an all knowing, all powerful make believe friend to back you up? Why can't you have a backup that we can look at and say "Hey... is this really what you're saying?"

I hope after you read this, that perhaps some of you will realize how hypocritical you truly are in the name of a faith based on a book written and rewritten over a thousand years after the events were supposed to have happened.

I am not a "gay basher" but I understand their perspective and maybe can try to shed a little light on the question. The Bible teaches that everyone is born with a tendency towards sin. This means that the person will always be tempted to do wrong things. This is why it's easier for a person to tell a lie than tell the truth. That's why when someone wants something really really bad, they will usually contemplate stealing it. It is true that the Bible teaches that THE ACT OF homosexuality is an abomination but it also teaches that lying and stealing and lusting are equal abominations. So they are all considered equal sins. This tendency towards sin still exists after someone becomes a Christian. So that just as a christian can be tempted to lie or cheat or steal, a christian can be tempted with homosexuality. - Despite what most of the "Christians" on here say. Well, I know this may not be a complete an answer as you were hoping and I'm sure you probably still aren't happy with that answer but that's the best I can do on here. Hope it helps! :-)

To the Christian bashers -
if Christianity is such an abomination to gays?
Why doesn't it disappear when someone becomes gay?

Many homosexuals feel they are unjustly criticized and or judged by Christians. The bible talks a lot about sin, such as, adultery, incest, rape, stealing, greed. The big deference is that adulters, the incestuous, rapists, thiefs, and the greedy don't take out "pride parades" (pride is also a sin) to celebrate their lifestyle or demand that others accept their behavior. Adulterers, the incestuous, rapists, theifs, and the greedy can also claim that they were born that way and can't help how they feel.
Born that way?
Quote on homosexuality by Stanton Jones, Chair of Psychology at Wheaton College;
"Anyone who says there is no hope for change is either ignorant or a liar. Every secular study of change has shown some success rate".
Dr Irvine Bieber concluded (after treating over a hundred homosexuals) that "a heterosexual shift is a possibility for all homosexuals".
The Director of the New York Center for Psychoanalytic Training remarked on the "misinformation spread by certain circles that homosexuality is untreatable", saying it did incalculable harm to thousands".
The Kinsey Institute reported that 84% of the homosexuals they studied had shifted their sexual orientation at least once; 32% of them reported a second shift, and 13% reported FIVE CHANGES, during their lifetime, in their sexual orientation.
Gays have a hard time arguing for homosexuality on it's own merits. They always have to make comparisons with some other group to help their argument. The most ridiculous comparison yet, is homosexuals comparing their sexual activity with that of animals. I will surprise homosexuals now and AGREE with you. Your sexual activity reminds me of animal behavior. It is interesting that homosexuals willingly put themselves on the same level as animals.

To be a "Christian" one must totally accept Jesus as savior, and totally accept the Holy Bible as the true word of God. You simply can not proclaim yourself a "Christian" by practicing / believing anything less. The Holy Bible denounces homosexuality as sin many times in both the new, and old testaments. Romans 1:21-32, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, Leviticus 18:22, and Leviticus 20:13, are a few of the very explicit forbiddings of homosexual practices. Even Islam denounces homosexuality in the Qur' an 7:80-81, and 26:165-166. So whether you pray to God, or Allah, homosexuality is a sin. Period.

Everyone that I know of that has become a Christian has been freed from the idea that being holy is too difficult. The undesireable habit and temptation will continue to occur unless certain things are put into place. Now, I am going to try to explain something the best I can......If a person has tendency to steal, and they have lots of positive experiences stealing, but they become a believer; obviously the stealing must stop. This does not automatically mean for each person this tendency will cease. What this means is that this person needs to: 1. surround themselves with other strong Christian people to help him or her overcome this tendency 2. ask God to provide strength to overcome the desire to steal 3. ask God to prevent tempting situations from happening and to protect their minds from unclean thoughts 4. create accountablity for themselves 5. create different habits in place of the ones used

*sigh*

Homosexuality is not a sin

The Bible is not the Word of God

No, it doesn't disappear and get faked -- that's the STUPIDEST thing I've ever read, and I don't use that language very often, only when its really bad.

Whether someone is gay or straight is beyond their control. Not only have studies and medical experiments over the past 20 years overwhelmingly indicated that homosexuality is not chosen; but animal studies have also indicated that exclusive homosexuality exists within hundreds of species, including pair bonding among species with pair bonding at all.

Since it is now demonstrable that homosexuality exists in animal populations (I knew that before Dr. Bagemihl's excellent study -- I grew up on a farm. We had, when I was small, a homosexual bull that wouldn't touch any cow, but loved other bulls -- so the study was kind of a "yeah... so" to me now), but, since it is demonstrable that homosexuality exists in animal populations, and we now have studies that clearly show that in simpler species -- oh say fruitflies -- a switch of a single gene from one generation to the next makes them homosexual or heterosexual -- and we have studies that show pheremonal response differentials, that show eyeblink differences from straight gender norms, and on and on and on -- its pretty clear that it is natural and beyond the individual's control.

Yes, people have control of whether or not they ACT on their desires. So a gay guy can be celibate and miserable, or can drag a female into a living hell with him by pretending he is straight and marrying her -- but the gay guy can't be straight; and trust me, the prejudices are not because someone is or isn't having sex with other same sex partners -- prejudices are because someone IS or APPEARS to be gay. It is because they are perceived to be gay. It is because they cause people's so called "gaydar" to go off. It is because of what they ARE, not what they DO.

As for the Bible and what it says about homosexuality. I believe what the Bible says about homosexuality exactly as much as I believe what it says about planting seed together and about wearing clothing of mixed fabric [Leviticus 19:19]. I accept that the Bible is correct about being gay in exactly the same way that I accept what it says about committing genocide in god's name [Joshua 10:40-42 and Joshua 11: 18-23]; about god accepting a human sacrifice [Judges 11:30-39]; about a successful land sacrifice (looking EXACTLY like the land sacrifices being offered by other pagan kingdoms) [II Samuel 21] and about god causing cannibalism among the people [Deuteronomy 28: 53-59].

The Bible is a book full of historical errors [We now know that Jericho was abandoned for hundreds of years before the story of its seizure by the Israelites, additionally, we know that it was NEVER walled. The battle of Jericho never took place therefore], biological errors [Leviticus 11: 21-23 -- locusts have six feet of course], and mathematical errors [Numbers 3:16-39 -- add them up yourself, 300 more than the Bible totals the numbers to].

So the short answer is no, I don't believe what the Bible says -- about homosexuality or anything else. The earth does not sit on pillars [I Samuel 2:8] nor is it established atop the waters [Psalms 24:1-2]. It does not have corners [Isaiah 11:12], nor do there exist treasuries of the air -- though that is not an uncommon thought in the days that the bible was written [Psalm 135:7].

The Bible has little to do with historical Christianity (the canon of books was not established until after the Council of Nicea and not finalized until the Council of Carthage). Christianity is all about following Christ, not about following a book. Therefore, no Christian who loves Jesus Christ needs worry about what a bronze age book of myths says about anything.

What is/was an abomination to God was the abusive practices at the time that scripture was written. Older men would choose young boys for their pleasure. We still see that as abusive and wrong today. Also homosexual rape was not uncommon. This was done by men who were not necessarily homosexual, but done to humilate and hurt the victims. (See the story of Sodom)

The concept of homosexuality as a way of loving, respectful love, was not commonly expressed until the 20th century. This love is consistant with the teachings of Christ, who never spoke of homosexuality.

Because being gay is a sin just like Cursing, Stealing, Killing, etc....Just because u become a Christian all of ur cravings to sin go away...u have to want to do better in order to and u still might slip...Like it says in the bible no sin is greater then another to God but u cannot continue to defiy him.....Christians are not perfect by any means...all those people saying have fun in hell and that other stuff are probably not living right themselves...

I'm both Gay and a Christian. I don't believe that it's an abomination at all.

Oh, and to anyone who says anything about Sodom, I'll go over this again. Sodom had nothing to do with being gay. It had to do with God wanting to destroy the city due to ungodliness in general. Abraham bargained with god to be able to find 10 Godly people in the city, and if he did, he had to spare the city.

So God sends two angels to Sodom, where the only Godly family they find is Lot's family. So the city is destroyed. It has nothing to do with anyone being gay.

God created all adult men. that's our determination on what to do with this existence... i'm no longer a believer interior the of course gay ingredient. i think of that's a decision you're making, like what to make for dinner, turning out to be a murderer, going to artwork and paying your costs. Homosexuality is a perversion of what God made, good up there with adultery and fornication and all the different sexually immoral acts of this earth. that's a large ingredient understanding that this is no longer my duty to choose any of those issues and that God nonetheless can love all of them.
